Friday July 8, 2022 Update

Happy Friday! In honor of the Summer sun, here is an art glass overlay piece we're working on. It's a pair of panels that will go into cabinet doors. The scene continues from one panel to the next, with the sun shining over the waves! Right now, we have added the lamination and glass globs - they are like glass half spheres that add dimension and design to the piece. The next step is adding the lead lines tp the front and back and then it will be installed into the cabinet doors. We just love how bright and happy this turned out!

July, Summer BBQ, and Patio Doors

July has just started, and with it a major barbeque holiday! America celebrated its independence with friends, family, and fireworks. Everyone enjoyed the long weekend and we are back to work. But the sunny weather and kids off of school mean the barbeques are not over! And this is where we come in.

How do you and your party goers get to the BBQ? Through the patio door of course! And if you are still using the original single pane, aluminum framed sliding door, it could be time for an upgrade. These old style of doors can get hard to slide over time and break down from years of use. Plus, and single piece of glass is not as strong or insulating as a dual pane unit. With vinyl retrofit sliding glass doors, the old aluminum door is removed, and a new vinyl framed unit with two sealed pieces of tempered glass is installed. This improves safety by using stronger glass, and insulation due to the two pieces of glass and the insulating gap in between them. A Low E coating can also be added which helps reflect the UV rays for doors getting too much light!

Friday June 24, 2022 Update

Summer officially started on Tuesday and all the graduates have had some time to enjoy new freedoms!

We hope everyone is able to stay cool and hydrated during these upcoming toasty days!

We have been working on many custom mirrors for our clients this week. When we think of mirrors, we often think of them being used in the restroom over our sinks. But they can be used in many ways around our spaces. They can be framed, as mirrored wardrobe doors, behind shelves, in alcoves, on dressers, and more. As there are no longer

***As a reminder, we will be closed next Friday July 1 through July 4, and will be back Tuesday, June 5.

Friday June 3, 2022 Update

June has just started and many are getting ready to graduate! It’s a big month right before Summer break (or summer job!) So here’s to new adventures and lets hope sometimes those adventures take you to the beach. We have, however, been enjoying the cool weather from our June gloom, but know the sun is coming!

We’ve been working at the Shoppe and creating lots of custom glass and mirror for our clients. So many things are unique sizes and we are here to provide glass for them in a time where there is no longer the “standard size”. But, while we are customizing glass, why not try for something a little different from the standard clear? We have great textured and privacy glass options that can be used as windows, shower doors, or table tops. Or get a custom design created for you with single stage sandblasted glass. It can even be done on mirrors for a creative looking glass! Plus, we can create traditional stained glass and art glass overlay pieces for a different type of art glass that can also feature colors and bevels. Our designers are here to work with you to create your perfect, custom glass! Contact us today with what you are looking for!

Also, tomorrow is an amazing artist demo at Oak Gallery!

“In this presentation, Diana Shay Diehl will give a brief history of encaustic painting as she demonstrates some basic techniques in using encaustic medium to alter and enhance her photographic work. She will discuss substrates, tools, and important information regarding the safe handling of 150-200 degree melted materials and potentially toxic pigments. Participants should come away with a basic understanding and deeper appreciation of how to view encaustic works.

  • Encaustic, meaning “to burn in or fuse”, is an ancient painting medium first practiced by Greek artists as far back as the 5th century B.C. Its base is a natural beeswax with damar resins added to give it resiliency. Today, this technique in painting and preservation is gaining popularity again.”

Friday July 9, 2021 Update

We hope everyone had a great Fourth of July weekend last weekend, and that this weekend will still be fun! Here at the Shoppe we have been working hard as the temperatures start to rise! In fact, many glass manufacturers have to shift their schedule to tempering glass in the evenings because of how hot the machines get (and to give the grid a bit of a break!) It is interesting how certain industries have to shift for the weather. We are very fortunate to not have to deal with snow or tornadoes.

So, since we have the heat of summer to contend with, our clients are able to get new windows for better insulation from the heat and glass shower enclosures for showers so they can cool off. Both of which are available through our local shop.

Friday June 25, 2021 Update

We're halfway to Christmas! So maybe we're dreaming of cooler weather sometimes, but we are enjoying the sun and the surprise patches of rain. Summer is here and we are here for your glass and mirror needs! Summer heat is a big issue in Southern California, and while we can’t help you with your air conditioning, we can with insulation; specifically, windows! For our clients with single pane windows (or damaged dual pane), we can replace them with new dual pane, vinyl retrofit windows. The added layers of thicker tempered glass, air, and more glass provide a much better buffer from the elements than a single piece of glass. This will help keep your home cooler in the summer, warmer in the winter, and quieter from sounds of the outside. Our window page here has more information and pictures to give you a better idea of what we do.

Of course, our artistic minds couldn’t suggest windows without suggesting some art glass windows! They are great for any window, but you will see them often decorating the sidelight of a front door or adding privacy to a large bathroom window. We can use textured or privacy glass, sandblast a design, or use stained glass to create a lead and bevel design, some color, or full color!

We have some new products coming up which we will share in our blog here. So check back often for new items and to find out what is happening at the Shoppe!

Friday June 18, 2021 Update

We hope everyone is surviving the heat wave! It hasn't been too bad on the coast and people are ready to be out and about! We have seen an increase of events that help our local small businesses and give the residents a place to go for unique items.

Since all of our glass, mirror, and of course, designs, are custom; we like to think we also provide unique items!

One of these items is mirrored wardrobe doors. They are the perfect way to cover your closet while making the room feel bigger and brighter. Put those doors to work by making them a wall mirror!

They are available in double track or if you have room for it, triple track which makes things a little easier to get to. We have different hardware finishes to match the room or give it something new. Check out our wardrobe door page here for more information.

Friday June 19, 2020 Update

Summer is almost upon us, we have the longest day of the year to look forward to! Hopefully it is a productive one!

It has been difficult on everyone, but we still need to work together to keep everyone safe as we are still working through this pandemic. In fact, we are still here working to make ends meet as many are. Our wonderful clients are helping keep our spirits up with new windows, shower doors, crystal repair, and even some custom dividers in restaurants. Might as well be safe and decorative! We will share more of that when the job is complete!

Also, be sure to follow us on our social media accounts (found at the bottom of the page) for more photos, information, and current going-ons!

PS: Starting Thursday June 25, 2020 parking in the village will be limited to three hours on many streets. Watch out for signs explaining the rules while visiting Carlsbad Village!
