Friday July 22, 2022 Update

Summer has been in full swing here with warmer temps this week, so we hope everyone has been able to keep cool! This week we have been working on entryway glass door inserts. Last week was cabinet door glass, so this week is the “larger” version for front doors! Plus we do inserts for the sidelites a well to match - or not! Inserts can be clear, tinted, textured, sandblasted, or stained glass/overlay. This provides multiple options of design and privacy. We can also double or triple glaze these units for a stronger exterior glass.

We can also do glass inserts for interior doors - have a porthole, half the door, or even a whole door of art glass. We are here for your design and privacy needs when it comes to glass and mirror.

Friday June 3, 2022 Update

June has just started and many are getting ready to graduate! It’s a big month right before Summer break (or summer job!) So here’s to new adventures and lets hope sometimes those adventures take you to the beach. We have, however, been enjoying the cool weather from our June gloom, but know the sun is coming!

We’ve been working at the Shoppe and creating lots of custom glass and mirror for our clients. So many things are unique sizes and we are here to provide glass for them in a time where there is no longer the “standard size”. But, while we are customizing glass, why not try for something a little different from the standard clear? We have great textured and privacy glass options that can be used as windows, shower doors, or table tops. Or get a custom design created for you with single stage sandblasted glass. It can even be done on mirrors for a creative looking glass! Plus, we can create traditional stained glass and art glass overlay pieces for a different type of art glass that can also feature colors and bevels. Our designers are here to work with you to create your perfect, custom glass! Contact us today with what you are looking for!

Also, tomorrow is an amazing artist demo at Oak Gallery!

“In this presentation, Diana Shay Diehl will give a brief history of encaustic painting as she demonstrates some basic techniques in using encaustic medium to alter and enhance her photographic work. She will discuss substrates, tools, and important information regarding the safe handling of 150-200 degree melted materials and potentially toxic pigments. Participants should come away with a basic understanding and deeper appreciation of how to view encaustic works.

  • Encaustic, meaning “to burn in or fuse”, is an ancient painting medium first practiced by Greek artists as far back as the 5th century B.C. Its base is a natural beeswax with damar resins added to give it resiliency. Today, this technique in painting and preservation is gaining popularity again.”

Find out more information and register to join the class here. It’s free, but space is limited!

The cool weather has been holding out here in Carlsbad! We have been working with our clients on their glass and mirror needs, and working on our website to highlight all at can do! Check back for more new upcoming pages including some helpful how to's and art glass as functional glass.

While you're here, check out our new page for Sandblasted Glass here. We use a single stage sandblasting process to create etched designs in glass OR mirror! Logos, decals, names, creatures and more can be added to your glass! Have a bathroom mirror with striking lines framing the edge, add flying birds to your shower door, or have your logo etched into the glass of your shop window! You can say it in glass with a sandblasted design which we create while working with our clients.

You can always see our Before and After Gallery here to see the improvements new glass makes. We love being the local glass supplier to our always fantastic clients!

Friday April 7, 2021 Update

It has been over a year, but in California we can go back to theme parks this month! We would love to make an art glass roller coaster themed panel - not something you see too often and our designers LOVE unusual and creative requests! For those curious, we have a lot of our art glass on this site, but you can check out Art Glass Overlay here and see our site dedicated to all the art glass we do! Get inspired, see our work, and let us know how we can add art glass to your life!

Art glass covers many things- not just stained glass, but also lead and bevel, cast glass, and sandblasted glass.

Stained glass and lead and bevel (or leadlight) are in the same realm as far as art glass goes and have many overlaps. We think of stained glass as colorful, but it can just feature clear glass and lead lines such as leadlight along with including clear bevels (as lead and bevel implies). Sometimes this is called clear stained glass. This overlap can be confusing, but just let us know what you are looking for and we can create something to match your needs.

Cast glass takes a super heated sheet of glass and presses it into a mold. The designs are pressed into the glass leaving their detailed depressions. We have options of repeating cast glass designs, or we can create custom scenes in clear glass. These make amazing doors for showers or offices.

Sandblasted glass is glass etched with a high powered blast of sand. There will be a frosted design with glass or mirror as the negative space or vise versa. These are great for logos or signs, family crests, floral designs, unusual designs, and more. Our designers work with our clients to create the designs that will be used for sandblasting, which means we can create anything that looks good as a silhouette on your glass or mirror.

Art glass is our designers passion and where owner Penny started in the glass world (35+ years of experience!) But don’t think our designs are stuck in the past - we pay homage to the classics, create modern works, create weird works, and create what our clients love in glass!
