We repaired this Vaseline Glass candlestick holder after cleaning it up and putting the pieces back together using our UV curing adhesive. Vaseline glass is a type of Uranium glass with a yellow color to it. Uranium was added to glass as a colorant and can give it a yellow to green tint. It even fluoresces bright green under UV light! This piece is from the 1870’s , but it wasn’t until the 1920’s that the name Vaseline Glass gained popularity. It is used for the uranium glass with a yellow tint, but has also been known to be used as a name for any glass with a yellow coloring and not solely based on it containing uranium. These pieces are actually a little radioactive, although it is considered harmless do to it being trace amounts. It would even take a sensitive geiger counter to pick it up!
